PDP 150 F06 Section 23

Plan of Week

Week 9

General ASSIGNMENT for Week: Do a Priorities analysis in your Reflective Journal and create a picture for yourself of your own priorities.  Then imagine that you are the Hero of your own Hero's Journey and have striven to live the Good Life and achieve the priorities that are in your analysis.  Write an essay that is 750 to 1200 words long on the topic:  A Life Well-Lived.  It should be written in the voice of one of your descendents, perhaps a great grandchild or another relative looking back at your life after you have run your race and completed the course.  It might be a reflection at your gravesite, or a reflection upon reading your diary or any other setting that would give you a good viewpoint to write the essay.  The viewpoint is of an admiring descendent, but also one who is realistic, so the essay should illustrate difficulties you had to overcome as well.

Class 1 Monday October 23, 2006

1. We will be talking about the Dimensions of Reflection and focusing in on Wellness.

Assignment: Write a reflection on wellness in your Reflective Journal.  In particular focus on bodily health and physical well being.  What are you doing to stay healthy?  If you have not completed your Great Person Slide it must be in to me by this day so I can prepare the slides for Wednesday.  To do really well on Great Conversation Day you should plan in the context of your slide what you are going to say for two minutes.  Two minutes is about three hundred words, so you might consider making a few notes about what you are going to say.  Your presentation will be graded on the categories of Engagement, Narrative Thread, Reflective Power, and Delivery.  Each category should receive a number from 0 to 3 — 0 = Really Poor, 1 = Fair but nothing special, 2 = Good but not Great, and 3 = Great!  You will grade everyone but yourself.

Class 2 Wednesday October 25, 2006

1. Great Conversation Day.  Today's the day.  I'm going to arrange the slides in the Chronological Order of the lives of the Great Persons.

ASSIGNMENT: Don't forget to write your Hero's Journey essay.

Class 3 Friday October 27, 2006  NO CLASS

There will not be a class on this Friday.  I will be attending a conference at Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg with some of our Computer Science students.

PICKUP: I will pick up your Hero's Journey essay which is the week's assignment on Monday, October 30th.

NEXT WEEK: Next week you will be going on your fourth essay adventure.  It just has to be an essay adventure you have not been on before.  It does not have to be the fourth of the ten journeys.  Pick one that seems interesting to you.
