Tiliaceae
| The Tiliaceae is known as the Linden, or Basswood family. The one we see most frequently in our area is Tilia americana, and in my experience, the species is most common along riverbanks. The picture to the left is of a cultivar planted on the Bridgewater College Campus. |

| The leaf of Tilia is very characteristic. Note the uneven attachment of the blade to the petiole. The term is: oblique. The stipules of these leaves can be quite conspicuous as the tree develops through the growing season. The flowers are rather showy as well. These pictures were taken from an ornamental cultivar planted on campus in front of Bowman Hall. The native basswoods I have seen are along riverbanks. | |
