What should my major be if I want to
got to law school?
ANSWER:
ANY!
The most popular pre-law major
is political science, but law schools don’t really care.
The most important thing law schools seem to care about is
LSAT Scores. Consider the following
table:
Relationship between LST Score
and grade point average in admissions to George Mason School of Law
(Number of applications/ number
accepted)
College
Grade Point Average
LSAT 3.75+ 3.5-3.74 3.25-3.49 3.00-3.24 2.75-2.99
Score
160-164 14/13 33/31 34/31 51/48 36/33
155-159 29/23 64/46 93/49 118/43 78/25
150-154 32/11 63/17 114/13 115/6 95/4
145-149 15/1 41/3 58/3 101/1 87/2
Notice
that if you have and LSAT score of 160-164 you have about as good a chance
(14/13) of being accepted if your GPA is 3.8 as if your GPA is 2.8 (36/33)!
How do I score
well on the LSAT?
1. Take as many
hard courses with hard professors as your can.
2. Learn skills in
reading, writing, and logic.
3. Study for the
LSAT!
4. Consider taking
an LSAT preparation course from KAPLAN or PRINCETON REVIEW (big $$$, but small
change when you consider the investment cost of law school).
